U20 5G and Desire 20 Pro mark HTC's return in the mobile market

The manufacturer HTC hopes to conquer the mobile market in 2020 by betting on the democratization of 5G technology.

As promised, the Taiwanese launched two intermediate smartphones: the premium U20 5G and the basic Desire 20 Pro. Both have Qualcomm chips, but bring different characteristics to reach more consumers.

The main highlight of the U20 5G is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 765G chip, which offers 5G to intermediate phones. It will work with 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of internal memory, and 5,000 mAh battery (with support for QC 4.0 fast charging), in addition to the Android 10 system. Full HD +.

In the camera department, there is a quadruple set at the rear led by the main sensor of 48 MP (f / 1.8). The other three are 8 MP ultrawide, macro, and depth - these two with 2 MP each.

The cameras support 4K recording, portrait mode, dark mode, and bring artificial intelligence features to enhance images. Upfront, 32 MP for selfies.

Its price is not the most affordable: 18,990 NTD (Taiwanese dollar), or about Rs 48,750 in direct conversion.

Its screen drops to 6.5 inches but maintains Full HD + resolution and the hole in the screen to house the front camera of 25 MP.

Interestingly, the Desire 20 Pro's camera set is identical to the U20 5G, which doesn't make much sense since we're talking about quite different prices. The battery is 5,000 mAh and also offers fast charging, but not as much as the U20 5G.

The Desire 20 Pro hits the market in black and blue for 8990 NTD, about Rs. 23,000.

Under new direction

At the end of 2019, HTC announced Yves Maitre, a former executive of Orange (France's largest telecommunications company operating in Europe), as the company's new CEO amid financial crises and almost zero participation in all markets.

After Google's acquisition of much of the mobile division of HTC, there were indications that the Taiwanese intended to abandon the segment

However, little by little HTC seems to be getting up and sees the democratization of 5G as a possibility to leverage its sales.

In February, the new CEO said that 2020 will be an important year for the company, which will focus on supplying products, in addition to the production of 5G smartphones and more mixed reality devices.

The mission of the new CEO will not be easy, but, it seems, it remains firm in its plans.
